The survey project was approved on March 17, 2016. The agreement was signed with the consulting firm on May 31 of the same year. The survey was recently completed. Through this, there is a possibility to launch a high speed bullet train between Dhaka and Chittagong.

If the bullet train is launched, it will be possible to reach Chittagong from Dhaka in just 55 minutes. That means five hours will be saved instead of six.

The proposed high-speed railway is known to pass through Fatullah in Narayanganj. If a high-speed train line is built from Dhaka to Chittagong via Comilla or Laksam, it will take less than an hour to travel on this route. If the rail line runs to Cox’s Bazar, it will be easier to travel to the resort town of Cox’s Bazar.

The approved cost of the survey project was 100 crore 69 lakh 29 thousand taka. The project was due to run between January 1, 2016 and March 31, 2019. But due to rising prices in dollars and rising costs in the consulting, feasibility studies and design projects sector detailed have been delayed. Following completion of the survey project, the next big project is being adopted. As a result, the bullet train will have to wait a few more years to travel.

In 2016, the total expenditure on consulting services in the survey project was Tk 98.41 crore. At that time, the exchange rate of money to the US dollar was 8 taka 40 paise. Currently, US $ 1 must be purchased through the Bangladesh Bank at a cost of Tk 83.75. As a result, an additional 9 crore 8 lakh 35 lakhs was added to this sector. Overall, the cost of the survey project is increasing by 9.51 percent. Concerned officials said the project duration will be extended by several months to adjust this money.

The design and feasibility study work was carried out jointly by Bangladesh Railway and China Railway Design Corporation (China) and Majumdar Enterprise (Bangladesh). Within the framework of the project, the detailed design of various infrastructures, the preparation of bidding documents, the determination of the new railway operation process, the preparation of the preliminary environmental test report, the environmental impact assessment of the project, environmental management and monitoring, land acquisition and rehabilitation plan. The project design will be completed in January.

Subaktagin, chief engineer for Eastern Railway, said that representatives from China Railway Design Corporation would come to Bangladesh in December to finalize the design. The project will then go to ECNEC for approval after determining the cost. Work will start after approval.

There is a 321 km railway line from Dhaka to Chittagong. However, the high-speed railway will be approximately 94 km less than the previous railway. In this case, the high-speed rail will be located at 226 kilometers.

If the project is implemented, the bullet train will operate at a maximum speed of 300 kilometers per hour. And it will transport about 50 thousand passengers a day. To do this, a passenger has to pay a fee of about 2,000 Tk.
