Iran mistakenly shot down its own passenger plane in the wake of tensions with the United States over the murder of one of Iran’s top military officers, General Qasem Soleimani. This time, Iran has reportedly mistakenly fired missiles at its own ships.

A missile fired from an Iranian navy ship during a drill in the Persian Gulf on Sunday killed at least 20 people on another naval ship. Anadolu Agency reported.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) called yesterday’s incident in the Persian Gulf a “man-made mistake.”

The Anadolu Agency reports that the C-602 Noor missile fired from Jamaran hit another ship.

The report added that the ship, which recently joined the Iranian navy, had a crew of 30 to 40. Initially, the ship’s commander was also reported to be among the dead.

Meanwhile, the IRGC called the incident a “man-made mistake,” but did not issue an official statement from the Iranian army. The Iranian navy is expected to issue a statement soon.

The incident comes amid weeks of tension with the United States in the Persian Gulf.

At the end of last month, US naval ships and Iranian naval gunships collided dangerously. The United States has said in a statement that it was “harassed” by the Iranian navy. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, also provoked on Twitter. IRGC chief general Hussein Salami retaliated.

Last Saturday rumors spread that Iran had thrown a US drone into its territorial waters. The two countries got involved in a discussion about this. Iran’s ongoing exercises in the Persian Gulf are the focus of recent tensions. Meanwhile, Iran began firing missiles at its own ships.
