The Bangladesh Bar Association has postponed the written examination for the registration of lawyers to be held on September 26. On Sunday (September 20), the chairman of the Bar Association’s Human Rights and Legal Aid Committee, Advocate Md. Several sources, including Mokhlesur Rahman Badal, confirmed this information to the Bangla Tribune.
According to the source, the enrollment committee postponed the exam due to the unavailability of Dhaka University and BUET room in Corona situation. However, the next date subject to discussion will be announced soon. A notice will also be posted on the Bar Association website to suspend the test.
Previously, before the student movement, the written test of 13,000 students who had passed the MCQ exam of the Bar Association on July 28 was scheduled for September 28.
Previously, lawyers only received certificates through an oral examination (Vaiba). However, as the pressure of students increases day by day, to become a lawyer you have to pass periodic, written and oral exams. Once students pass any of the three steps, they have the opportunity to participate in the next test for the second and last time.
However, if they fail the second time, they must re-participate in the test from the beginning. According to him, out of 34 thousand students in 2017, 3,590 students who dropped out for the second and last time in the written test and in 2020, out of around 60,000 lawyers in training, a total of 12,658 candidates, including 6,084 students who passed MCQ, will participate in the written test.
Apprentice attorneys have spoken out for a number of lawsuits, including failure to comply with the judgment of the Appeals Division, failure to comply with irregular examinations and lack of book review facilities. Faced with the movement, the Bar Association decided to carry out a written test on September 27.
