Sweden says a Swedish woman died about a week after being vaccinated against the new Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus. The woman was in good physical shape. The Swedish Medical Products Agency, the country’s state drug safety agency, said Thursday. This was reported by the Reuters news agency.
Veronica Arthurson, director of the Swedish Medical Products Agency, said: “This is a case of blood clots in the arteries and veins, a problem that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) is investigating.”
Meanwhile, the EMA announced Thursday that the AstraZeneca vaccine was safe and effective.
Blood clots in vaccinated people were first reported in Norway. Subsequently, 13 countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, France and Spain, discontinued the use of ticks. Countries will resume using the AstraZeneca ticker after the EMA calms down. Only Sweden will wait until next week to start vaccinating AstraZeneca again.
After a two-day meeting with the expert committee since Tuesday, the EMA said Thursday that the effectiveness of fighting Covid-19 was greater than the risk of death and hospitalization from the AstraZeneca vaccine.
