The committee has been reformed in protest at the comments of the new organizers, the ‘financial opacity, the arbitrariness, the underestimation of the false accusations of the fellow Nur-Rashed and the recent attempt to dirty politicize a rape case presented by a University student.
The new committee was announced at a press conference at the National Press Club on Thursday under the banner of the organization’s former name ‘General Council for the Protection of the Rights of Bangladeshi Students’.
The convener is APM Suhel, who was once the joint convener. Ismail Samrat, another joint coordinator of the previous committee, has become a member secretary.
The 22-member committee, made up of 14 joint coordinators, three members, a deputy secretary and two advisers, was described as “biased” at the press conference.
Member Secretary Ismail Samrat told a press conference that the “General Council for the Protection of Student Rights of Bangladesh” was formed in 2016 and focused on the quota reform movement; Its main goal and objective was to work for the welfare of the country and the people as an apolitical social organization.
In a function marking the organization’s third anniversary on February 18, the organization’s name was shortened amid many ‘oppositions’, he said, adding that “three organizations called Bangladesh Youth Rights Council, Workers’ Rights Council and Expatriate Rights Council were quickly formed.
Ismail said: “We still do not know the aim and purpose of organizing the student rights council. As a result, resentment builds up within the organization. This was opposed by the main leaders of the rank and file of the organization. But the politicization process begins with Nur’s single decision, which is a kind of autocratic decision, in addition to creating extreme conflict within the organization.
He said they had been ‘silent’ for so long, thinking about various issues, including the interests of the organization and the opportunity to ‘correct’ them. But now it is not possible.
“Considering all the circumstances, we have declared Nur-Rasheds undesirable. Our main name is ‘Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhik Sanrakshan Parishad’. We have officially started our activities.”
Other leaders of the new committee were also present at the Student Rights Protection Council press conference.
Asked about the press conference of the new committee, the joint coordinator of the organization Nurul Haque Nur said: “Those who have announced the committee today are not members of the Student Rights Council. I saw many of them, who lead another platform called United Student Organization The convener of the committee, whose name I saw was Suhail, was expelled last May for anti-organizational work.
“Now anyone can claim to be a leader of the Student Rights Council. It doesn’t happen just for claiming. We don’t even consider where they come from. “
Nur also commented that the government was conducting such activities out of jealousy in the organizational system of the Student Rights Council.
Muhammad Rashed Khan, the acting coordinator of the Student Rights Council, was called in to speak on the matter, but was detained.
Six leaders and activists of the Student Rights Council, including Nur, are charged in all cases brought by a graduate student from the Department of Islamic Studies at Dhaka University, alleging rape, accomplice and complicity in the rape, murder of characters and cyber bullying.
Hasan Al Mamun, the main defendant in one of the rape cases, was the coordinator of the Student Rights Council, while Nazmul Hasan Sohag, the main defendant in another rape case, was the joint coordinator. They were expelled from the organization after the lawsuit was filed.
Joint coordinator Nur is the third defendant in those two cases. The student has just filed another case against him under the Digital Security Law.
Police have already arrested and detained two defendants in the rape case. Although Sohag and Mamun are fugitives, Nur has been seen regularly participating in various anti-rape programs in recent days.
