The body of Bollywood actor Sushantar was found hanging in his apartment last June. There are many mysteries surrounding the suicide incident.
Sushant’s girlfriend, Riya Chakraborty, was arrested in a drug law case Tuesday afternoon after lengthy questioning. Riya herself is a Bollywood actress and model.
Earlier in the same case, the Office of Narcotics Control arrested 10 people, including Rear’s brother Shauvik, Sushant’s former manager Miranda, and former chef Deepesh Sawant.
According to a BBC report, after Sushant’s death, the Indian media began to cover the incident with the utmost seriousness. As the mystery of death deepens, so does the media.
At one point, Rea moved to the center of the scene. Sushant’s father filed a case against Riya alleging incitement to suicide, stealing her son’s money, giving additional drugs and even “Sushant may have been murdered.”
Rhea has denied all the allegations against her. Those accusations are still under investigation and the judicial process is in an initial stage. However, several popular television channels in India have already declared Riya a “criminal”.
But all of India is going through a time of extreme crisis. Last Monday, the Government of India released the data of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter (April-June) of the current financial year. It found that India’s GDP had shrunk by 23.9 percent, a record drop in the past 25 years.
Since 1998, India has published its quarterly GDP figures. Economists call this year’s GDP outlook “worrying.”
The economic woes have been largely due to coronavirus infections across the country and closures to prevent the spread of the epidemic.
Despite the tragic state of the country’s economy in the lockdown, the spread of the virus could not be reduced. India now ranks second in the world in the number of patients diagnosed with Covid-19. Only the United States is ahead of India in this regard.
As the number of infections continues to rise every day, many fear that India may reach number one at some point.
In this country with the second highest population in the world, the number of COVID patients diagnosed daily has been registered almost daily for the last few weeks. The daily death rate is also increasing.
A record 98,551 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in the country in the last day, leaving 1,209 dead.
According to the government, so far 45 lakh 72,414 Kovid-19 patients have been identified in India, a total of 6,261 people have died.
Meanwhile, a state of war has broken out on the border between China and India. On June 15, Chinese troops killed 20 Indian soldiers without firearms in the Galwan Valley in Ladakh.
Since 1980, there have not been so many Indian soldiers killed on the border with China. Since that incident, both countries have increased their strength at the border. There have also been occasional accusations of induced firings and intrusion from both sides.
Although the defense ministers of the two countries met in Moscow and agreed to ease tensions at the border, international media say the situation on the Sino-Indian border remains worrying.
However, a BBC report has commented that most of the television channels in India are spending little time publishing all this news.
It is said that when an announcer on an Indian television channel wanted to talk about GDP, the host stopped him with sharp sarcasm.
The speaker said, “I would like to call the day I heard the news that GDP contracted 23.9 percent as one of the disgusting days of my life …”
The speaker could not finish the sentence. Previously, the host had stopped him and said: “If you find the matter so unpleasant, you do not need to participate in this discussion.” Don’t waste our time, your time, the time of the nation, the time of the visitors and mine.
“If you want to know about GDP, read tomorrow’s newspaper.”
The same has happened with several other channels. They describe Sushant’s death as the “greatest event” of all time.
After Riya was arrested last Tuesday, a channel host said with great pride that his channel has so far published the news of Sushant’s death for about two thousand hours.
Why is there so much interest surrounding Sushant’s death? Why Rhea Villain?
Analysts say the main reason for “definitely” is politics. News of Sushant’s death and Riya’s interrogation and arrest are being broadcast on channels that support the ruling BJP of India.
Amarnath Tiwari, a senior journalist in Bihar, told the BBC: “The assembly elections in Bihar should be held at the end of this year. Son of Sushant Bihar. Here the leaders ask for votes on behalf of Sushant.”
Prime Minister of State Nitish Kumar repeatedly mentioned Sushant’s name in his first virtual demonstration on Monday. His coalition partner, BJP, is distributing stickers, masks and brochures with images of Sushant’s smiling face during the election campaign.
Amarnath said: “Let the empty election end. No one in Bihar will say a word about Sushant again. “
Politics is also happening in Maharashtra with Sushant. A dispute has broken out between BJP and Shiv Sena over Sushant’s death case in the capital Mumbai. The BJP alleges that a Shiv Sena minister is interfering in the case.
Commenting on the Sushant and Riya incidents, The Print’s Shailja Bajpayee said: “Such incidents are a ‘big job’ to divert people’s attention during the national crisis and the government is ‘making full use of them.’
“You have the news in your hands, so that the juicy history of crime, Bollywood, cinema and current affairs are present. A beautiful young woman is placed at the center of this story and the narrator cleverly diverts people’s attention from the true national crisis.
“The government is very happy. Because nobody questions him about the country’s economy, GDP, unemployment or the uncontrolled growth of the coronavirus ”.
Television channels are also benefiting from the sale of news from Sushant-Riya. In this glamorous news, its audience has increased, the show’s ratings have increased, and therefore the number of advertisements has also increased.
Shailja Bajpayee said: “Channel ratings are continually increasing. Because, viewers of our perverted taste are taking any turn or turn of events in Sushant-Riya’s story. So the channels are also behind this incident. But we also have to face the real crisis. What is the message of this incident on our society? “
