Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a ceasefire agreement, mediated by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
News of the peace agreement came just as the Azerbaijani army advanced at breakneck speed, driving the occupying Armenian army from other areas, shortly after liberating the strategically important city of Shusha.
Now the question is, what is the benefit of this peace agreement? I have said before that this agreement is real at a time when total victory for Azerbaijan is almost 100% certain. But why did Azerbaijan accept the deal at that time? The answer is under pressure from Russia.
Who is the beneficiary of this war?
Russia is a major power in the region. As long as Russia remained silent, it meant that Azerbaijan had fought.
How does Russia benefit?
Russia awaited his release.
Russia will benefit if the Nagorno-Karabakh region is not completely liberated but rather suspended. It is possible to take care of both countries. That is why the great leaders of the world keep regional problems alive.
Another benefit of Russia is that through this peace agreement, Russia’s military bases in the Nagorno-Karabakh region have matured. Under the agreement, the Armenians will leave five of the seven Nagorno-Karabakh territories occupied by Armenia to Azerbaijan. Russian peacekeepers will patrol the other two areas for the next five years. The patrol will include 1,960 Russian soldiers, 90 armored vehicles and 360 vehicles.
How much does Azerbaijan benefit?
Since Azerbaijan had almost come close to liberating the entire region. So for the moment, the ceasefire agreement appears to be a loss, but the real beneficiary of this agreement is the oil-rich country.
Because, one. He has done what he has not been able to do for the last 28 years in two months.
Two. Armenia will never again dare to stand against Azerbaijan.
Three. 2-3 areas will be returned without fighting. War means loss of life, no matter how strong or weak you are. So recovering some territories without war is no less important.
Four. The Armenian lobby around the world is closed.
What did Turkey achieve?
Turkey didn’t get much in the real sense. Azerbaijan and Turkey have insisted from the beginning on ensuring the presence of Turkish troops in peacekeeping missions. But the latest agreement says nothing about the presence of Turkish troops. If Azerbaijani President Aliyev said that the Turkish army will also be in the peacekeeping mission. But I am not convinced enough.
However, the new agreement allows a corridor from the Nakhchivan enclave of Azerbaijan, adjacent to the Turkish border, to the mainland of Azerbaijan via Armenia.
Transportation of passengers and goods from Turkey to Azerbaijan will be much easier through this corridor. Before, to get to Azerbaijan by land, you had to travel thousands of kilometers through Georgia.
But Turkey’s biggest gain is its display of military might around the world. Turkey After Syria, Iraq and Libya, Turkey proved once again that Ankara cooperates with whatever it has in the end. And Turkey’s weapons and tactics do not have the power to stand up to the small country’s army.
The victory also avenged Turkey’s defeat to the Armenian lobby in the international arena.
And Armenia has not only lost on the battlefield, the country’s prime minister now faces a lot of criticism and enormous pressure inside and outside the country. Perhaps there will be a change of government in the country very soon.
