Former Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, in her first press conference on Friday after 14 months in captivity, called for a renewed fight against the country’s central government move on Jammu and Kashmir.

On the same day, Mehbooba said that he would not raise the Indian national flag until the Jammu and Kashmir flag was returned to him. It will not participate in the elections until Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status is restored. News from The Dawn and NDTV.

In response to Mehbooba Mufti’s demand, Indian Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Saturday that Jammu and Kashmir’s special constitutional status would not be restored.

The BJP has also brought charges of treason against the former leader of the Jammu and Kashmir PDP, Mehbooba Mufti.

The BJP has demanded immediate arrest. Jammu and Kashmir BJP Chairman Rabindra Raina said on Saturday: “Mehbooba should be arrested and jailed now for his anti-national comments.”

Reacting to Mehbooba’s comments, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the PDP leader’s comments that he would return the Jammu and Kashmir flag were a clear condemnation of India’s national flag.

Ravi Shankar Prasad further said that Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was revoked last year after following the proper constitutional process. It was passed with overwhelming support in both houses of the Indian Parliament.

Ravi Shankar Prasad has criticized the opposition’s “silence” on Mehbooba’s remarks. Mehbooba was released on October 13 after being held captive for about 14 months. On October 15, he joined the Grand Alliance.

The alliance aims to regain its position in Jammu and Kashmir before August 5, 2019. That is, Article 370 of the Constitution and the restoration of full-state status. After assuming this political position, Mehbooba attended the press conference on Friday.
