There is also panic among election officials
In the city elections, 835 presidents, 1,460 assistant presidents, and 2,940 voting officers were appointed. Election officials collected voting equipment from four areas under police surveillance. Among them, Prothom Alo spoke with 13 officers who went to the gym adjacent to the MA Aziz stadium to collect equipment. Almost all have expressed apprehension.
Election officials say law enforcement has a key responsibility to prevent unwanted people from entering the polls. But as of late, they don’t pay much attention to presidents. This creates chaos. The council candidate’s people got into a fight.
A president of a center in the Firingi Bazar district said, on condition of anonymity, that his center was located next to the home of a candidate for councilor. As a result, he is a bit scared.
Both sides talk about the external
Both the Awami League and the BNP have accused foreign terrorists of meeting in Chittagong city. BNP mayoral candidate Shahadat Hossain has alleged that the Awami League has brought together leaders and activists from the surrounding districts and Upazilas to occupy the center.
The BNP has also made a list of how many foreigners have come from which districts and upazilas. Party leaders say there may be 100 outsiders in each center. However, no formal complaint was filed with the Electoral Commission on behalf of BNP until 8 pm yesterday.
Regarding the BNP accusations, the Awami League central organizing secretary, SM Kamal Hossain, told reporters that the BNP was conspiring to make the elections controversial. Armed Jamaat-Shibir terrorists are bringing BNP cadres to Chittagong city and trying to make the elections controversial.
According to local political sources, a large number of people from outside Chittagong occupied a central place in the 2015 municipal elections. Almost all worked for then-mayoral candidate AJM Nasir Uddin.
