Dhaka: Initially, five crore rupees were required to travel abroad to learn how to cook and process eggs, khichuri, vegetables and other foods. A further Rs 10 million Tk has been sought for training in this regard in the country.
A total of Tk 15 crore has been requested for training at home and abroad.
The Department of Primary Education (DPE) is known to have proposed sending 1,000 government officials abroad to learn or gain experience in Khichuri cuisine. These officers will travel abroad as part of the school feeding program in primary schools.
However, the Education Area of the Planning Commission has objected to the cost of training in various sectors and training abroad. At the same time, it has been said to eliminate these costs.
Currently, approximately 3.3 million children do not attend primary school. They do not go to school for various reasons. A plan has been proposed for a primary school feeding program to be school-oriented.
The DPER claims that food distribution will help children go to school and solve their nutritional problems.
It is known that food will be provided to 1 crore 46 lakh 60 thousand students through this program at a cost of Tk 19 thousand 262 crore 82 lakh 25 thousand.
The Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) of the Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division of the Planning Commission held a meeting on Monday (September 14) on the project.

The Planning Commission has questioned DPE’s spending. At the same time, it has been asked to cut spending in various sectors. Rs 5 million has been requested to reduce travel abroad. However, the primary school feeding program is underway in India. For this, a team of 5 to 6 people will go to Delhi, the capital of India, and learn school feeding activities. As a result, spending in this sector has been reduced to a reasonable level, the Planning Commission said.

According to sources from the Planning Commission, the cost of distributing food to children in the project’s DPP (Development Project Proposal) is Tk 1,618.56 crore.
According to sources from the Planning Commission, the modalities of fortified cookies with micronutrients and nutritious cooked foods will be implemented. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will be appointed for national and field-level training, program review workshops, orientation workshops, and topic-based technical seminars, storage, distribution, and monitoring of food and biscuits in each of the districts and upazilas of the project.
The total cost of the project will be met from the government treasury. Of this, the cost of buying food will be 16,165.63 million Tk. And the cost of distribution of these foods has been estimated at Tk 1,618.56 crore. Cooked food will only be provided in schools that will build kitchens and provide cooking utensils socially. The project does not mention how many schools will be able to do so.
