Harunur Rashid Bagmara Upazila Taherpur Assistant Deputy Inspector of Police Outpost (ASI) suspended.
The action was taken after a video of Harunur Rashid accepting a bribe went viral on social media, said Rajshahi district police spokesman and additional police superintendent (headquarters) Ifte Khair Alam.
Ifte Khair Alam said that a video of ASI Harunur Rashid taking money captured on CCTV has gone viral.
“When the matter came to the attention of the police superintendent, it was immediately dropped and suspended. It is being investigated.”
The video is believed to be from a period of lockdown in Corona, Ifte Khair said.
In the viral video, ASI Harun was seen taking money from a person.
A Taherpur Township Councilor said on condition of anonymity that it was mandatory to bribe ASI Harun as soon as the store in Lockdown opened. ASI Harun’s main job was to obtain money from stores and extort money from drug dealers.
