The police arrested three people in connection with the demolition of a sculpture of Bagha Jatin, one of the main revolutionaries of the anti-British movement in Kushtia. They were detained at various locations on Friday night (December 16). The main planner is Juba League leader Anisur Rahman Anis.
The other detainees are Sabuj Hossain (20) and Hridoy Ahmed (20). Police initially confirmed that the sculpture was vandalized due to a personal dispute with the university’s board of directors and the university’s principal.
Kushtia Police Superintendent SM Tanvir Arafat said this at a press conference at the Kushtia Police Superintendent’s office on Saturday (December 19).
At a press conference, the police superintendent said that three people were directly involved in the vandalism of the sculpture of the revolutionary Bagha Jatin at Kaya College in Kumarkhali upazila on Thursday (December 16) evening. The rest of those who are with them will also be subject to the law very soon and will be handed over to the court.
It can be mentioned that some criminals vandalized the sculpture of Bagha Jatin, a pioneer of the Indian independence movement, at Kaya College in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali Upazila around 12:30 pm on Thursday. Police arrested Anisul Haque, president of the Kaya Union Juba League, the mastermind behind the incident, on Friday morning in a tip. Subsequently, the police arrested Hridoy Ahmed and Sabuj Hossain, two others involved in the incident.
