Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam said the vaccine would be available to 4.5 million people in the country between May and June. Of these, 1.5 million people will be vaccinated in late January or early February. The rest of the vaccine will arrive in May-June.
He told reporters after Monday’s cabinet meeting.
The cabinet secretary said the health minister had previously said that three crore doses of the vaccine would be administered to 1.5 crore people in late January or early February. And between May and June, another 60 million doses of the vaccine will arrive through Covax.
So far, he said, the Oxford vaccine is being considered.
When asked how the vaccine would be distributed, the cabinet secretary said that the idea of administering the vaccine in various hospitals through EPI was well under way. Private hospitals can also be used. To do this, conversations are held with private hospitals.
He said that the basic training to execute the vaccine program has already started.
