The press secretary said: “The US Defense Secretary praised Bangladesh’s generosity on the Rohingya issue and thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for it.” The Defense Minister spoke with the Prime Minister about the defense cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and US Secretary of Defense Asper agreed to continue the dialogue and high-level discussions to expand cooperation in the defense sector.
Ihsanul Karim said the US Defense Secretary thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for cooperating with the US during the coronavirus outbreak. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her regret at the loss of life in the United States and thanked Bangladesh for its support in the fight against the coronavirus.
Ihsanul Karim said: “The Prime Minister and the Secretary of Defense of the United States hope that the two countries will continue to work closely to deal with the emergency situation caused by the Kovid-19 outbreak.” US Defense Secretary Asper praised Bangladesh’s role in UN peacekeeping missions. He also mourned the loss of a Bangladeshi Navy ship in an explosion in the port of Beirut last month.
He hoped Bangladesh would continue its “productive role” in peacekeeping missions, adding that the United States would continue to support it.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina spoke about the upcoming US elections and hoped that the elections would be held correctly.
Defense Minister Asper said his government is ready to help Bangladesh deal with the current flood situation or any future natural disaster.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested the cooperation of the United States Secretary of Defense to extradite Rashed Chowdhury, Bangabandhu’s killer, who is in the United States. Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said: “US Defense Secretary Asper assured the prime minister of his cooperation on this matter.”
