Navalny, a leader known as a fierce critic of President Vladimir Putin, was detained shortly after landing at a Moscow airport on Sunday after returning home from Germany at risk of arrest.

He was detained at a police station in the capital Moscow. Navalny was arrested in 2014 on charges of violating the probation conditions of a suspended sentence in a money laundering case.

Less than 24 hours later, a one-day hearing was held at the police station and he was incarcerated on the orders of a judge.

The accusations against Navalny were heard at a police station outside Moscow on Monday, ignoring international calls for his immediate release.

State prosecutors asked the judge to sentence Navalny to 30 days in prison. The judge ordered Navalny’s detention until February 15 for violating the conditions of probation, the BBC reported.

Navalny will have to appear in another hearing on January 29. The hearing will decide whether he will be jailed instead of his suspended sentence of three and a half years.

Navalny called his trial Monday “ridiculous” and “extremely unfair.” In a video posted after the hearing, Navalny also asked his followers to protest.

Despite the bitter cold, some 200 Navalny supporters gathered outside police stations that day to demand his release, according to Reuters. Russia has denied the allegations.

Navalny, 44, fell into a coma after drinking a cup of tea on a domestic flight from Serbia to Moscow in August last year. From the airport he was admitted to a local hospital.

If his condition did not change, he was taken to Germany for advanced treatment. According to the test, an attempt was made to kill him with a toxic nerve agent manufactured in Soviet times.

Navalny and his supporters allege that the Russian government, particularly President Vladimir Putin, tried to kill him with chemical poisoning.

However, the Kremlin has always denied the accusations. Putin said that if the Russian agents wanted to kill him, “they would have done their job.”

Navalny is recovering from a long illness in a Berlin hospital. His health is almost back to normal. The leader returned to Russia on Sunday after returning to Russia and announcing the resumption of politics in a post on his Instagram on Wednesday.
