An unpleasant incident took place between the municipal mayor and the UN at the monthly development coordination committee meeting on the issue of the leasing of the Kazirhat and Nagarbari ghats in Pabna’s Bera upazila.

On the other hand, the municipal mayor of Bera, Abdul Baten, denied the accusation, saying that UNO had created unnecessary complications with the resolution of the lease of two large ghats. He only objected to this.

The incident took place in the conference room of the Upazila Parishad on Monday afternoon. Meanwhile, UNO has filed a written complaint with the Pabna Deputy Commissioner and other senior officials on Monday afternoon.

Pabna Deputy Commissioner Kabir Mahmud admitted to the allegations Monday night, saying that a written resolution on the lease of Kazirhat and Nagarbari Ghat in Abdul Baten Upazila, mayor of Bera Municipality, pressured UNO Asif Anam Siddiqui for his approval. But the UN refused to approve the matter because it was out of politics.

Later, Mayor Abdul Baten treated him rudely. He said that the upper echelons of the government have been informed about this. The next step will be taken according to the instructions of the Ministry of Public Administrations.

Bera Upazila Nirbahi’s officer, Asif Anam Siddiqui, said that an unfortunate incident had occurred. Details of the incident have been reported to higher authorities. I didn’t want to say more than that.

When contacted, the municipal mayor of Bera, Alhaj Abdul Baten, denied the allegations of unfair treatment of the UNO, saying that the Kazir Hat Ghat and Nagarbari port of upazila was leased for Tk 5.4 crore. At the meeting held on the 22nd of last month, a resolution was approved on the issue of depositing this money in the government treasury and part of the upazila. At Monday’s meeting, I objected to the UN’s complication with the resolution.

The meeting was attended by the acting president of Bera Upazila, Mezbah Uddin, the president of Puran Varenga UP, Rafiqullah, the president of Jatsakini UP, Rezaul Haque Babu, the president of Ruppur UP, Ujjal Hossain, the police officer in charge of Aminpur , Mozammel Haque, Bera Police Station, OC Abul Kashem, and other government officials.
