City had 21 shots on target with two balls to spare throughout the game, five of which were on target. By contrast, United scored a remarkable victory by targeting six of eight shots.
After winning 21 matches in a row in all competitions, Manchester City had the bitter taste of defeat.
Despite losing, Manchester City are in a very strong position in the fight to regain the title. They are at the top with 20 wins from 26 games and 65 points from five draws. United with 54 points in 15 wins and 9 draws.
Leicester City, at number three, has 53 points. Chelsea are in fourth place with 46 points, one game less.
Liverpool, who lost 1-0 at home to Fulham in another match of the day, are in seventh place with 43 points from 28 games.
