The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-1) arrested a man named Sheikh Mohammad Saraf Nawar (19) for posting obscene and provocative posts on Facebook against ongoing protests against rape.

He was arrested in a raid in the area of the Khilkhet police station in the capital on Saturday.

They recovered a mobile phone and two screenshots of a stand protesting the rape.

Confirming the matter, RAB-1 (CPC-3) Squad Commander ASP Mushfiqur Rahman Tushar said that some people were creating a volatile situation by posting provocative posts on Facebook against the ongoing protests against rape. In this context, the RAB-1 cyber monitoring team was able to identify some IDs that had posted provocative and obscene posts against the anti-rape protests on Facebook.

Surveillance, he said, has been displaying a distorted mindset with provocative posts inciting rape from a Facebook ID to spark ongoing protests.

Sheikh Mohammad Saraf Nawar was arrested in a raid outside the Khilkhet Bonsai Bangla Khabar hotel in the capital, the RAB said.

The detainee is involved in a local teen gang in the Mohammadpur area. The RAB said legal action was being taken against him.
