Symbolic image of arrestThe Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) Detective Branch arrested Saiful Islam, joint coordinator of the Student Rights Council, and Nazmul Huda, vice president of the organization’s DU branch.
Lalbagh Zone DB Additional Police Deputy Commissioner Hasan Arafat confirmed the matter to the Bengali Tribune on Monday (12 October) at noon.
He said defendants Nazmul Huda and Saiful Islam were arrested yesterday in the capital in a rape case brought by a DU student. They will be sent to court at some point.
Earlier, the former vice president of Dakshur Nurul Nur alleged that Sohrab Hossain, the coordinator of the Central Committee of the Student Rights Council, along with Nazmul Huda and Saiful Islam, was detained by DB police.
In a video message yesterday (October 11), Nur claimed that Nazmul from Moghbazar, Saiful from Changharpul and Sohrab Hossain, the central committee coordinator of the press club, had been taken away.
The former vice president of Daksh said that the police could arrest Nazmul and Saiful as defendants in the case against the BCL activist who had brought the case against us. But this case has nothing to do with Sohrab Hossain. Why was it taken away?
On the night of September 20, a DU student filed a case with the Lalbagh Police Station alleging rape and complicity in the rape. Six people, including former Vice President Daksh Nurul Haque Nur and Student Rights Council coordinator Hasan Al Mamun, were charged in the case. Nazmul Huda is the fifth defendant in this case. He is the vice president of the DU branch of that organization. Later, the student filed another case at the Kotwali Police Station.
