The Lalbagh Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police arrested two students arrested in a rape case and collaboration in a Dhaka University student case.

They are Saiful Islam and Nazmul Huda. They are both students at Dhaka University. They are the leaders of the Bangladesh General Council for Student Rights, a platform formed to demand the lifting of quotas in government positions. Nazmul is the joint coordinator of the Saiful Bangladesh Student Rights Council and vice president of the organization’s DU branch. The two were arrested yesterday. His arrest was shown today.

Rajib Al Masood, Deputy Commissioner of the Lalbagh Division of the Detective Police confirmed the matter. He told the media that they were arrested after conducting raids at different locations in Dhaka city on Sunday night.

They have been arrested in a case brought by a Dhaka University student at the Kotwali Police Station.

The student filed a case under the Digital Security Law on September 21 alleging abuse of women and children, kidnapping, rape and murder of characters on social media.

The fourth defendant in this case is Saiful and the fifth defendant is Nazmul. Daksh Nurul’s former vice president Haque Nur is also charged in the case.

The DU student also filed a case against them at the Lalbagh Police Station on September 20.

The student fell ill while making a sculpture of Raju fasting demanding the arrest of the accused.

Student council leaders were spotted on various anti-rape shows on Shahbag and the National Press Club.

They were criticized by the police for not arresting them despite being charged in a rape case.

However, the report of the investigative committee formed by the Council on Student Rights said the defendants were not involved in the violation.
