At least five people died after two planes crashed in midair in a western French city. The BBC quoted local officials as saying.
The accident occurred at 4:30 pm local time on Saturday in the southeastern part of the French city of Tours.
Rescue teams, including at least 50 members of the fire service, arrived at the scene after the two planes crashed.
The relatively small vehicle between the two planes crashed into the fence of a house in the town of Loches with two passengers, including the pilot. The city of Loches is about 48 kilometers southeast of the city of Tours.
The AFP news agency quoted a witness as saying that the plane caught fire after falling on the electric meter of a house.
On the other hand, the relatively large plane crashed in an isolated area 100 meters away with three tourists.
“Five people in two planes died,” said Nadia Seghiar, a local administration official.
Nadia added: “Emergency management personnel were brought in from Lyon to quickly identify where the two planes crashed.”
The cause of the accident or the identities of the dead were not immediately known. Local police have reportedly launched an investigation into the incident.
