Dhaka: A court awarded a day of pretrial detention to the owner and manager of a spa center called ‘Hijama Body Massage and Therapy Center’ at Navana Tower in Gulshan. The other 6 defendants have been sent to prison.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Saeed issued the order on Wednesday (September 23).
The detained defendants are Razia Khatun alias Faria, owner of the Center for Hijama Therapy and Body Massage and Imran Khan, manager.
And the defendants who went to jail are: Md. Al Amin, Rakibul Hasan, Al Amin, Muhid Ali Mithu, Hosne Ara Khatun, Lily, Geeti Deuri and Jaya Chambu.
Investigative Officer SI Rezaul Alam from the Gulshan Police Station presented 10 defendants in court. Between them, Faria and Imran were held in pre-trial detention for five days and the other six defendants remained in pre-trial detention.
According to the petition, the Hijama Therapy and Body Massage Center in the Navana Tower below the Gulshan Police Station has been carrying out exploitative and sexual harassment activities by gathering young women from different parts of the country and practicing illegal prostitution. The defendants were arrested while engaged in antisocial activities and were ready for prostitution. They have confessed to prostitution. Faria and Imran have been operating the spa center unethically, using it as a mini brothel.
Therefore, the main secret of the case was revealed, Faria and Imran’s request for preventive detention for the verification and selection of whether someone else was involved with them and the other 6 defendants were requested to remain in jail.
On behalf of the two defendants, their lawyer requested bail to cancel the pre-trial detention. The other 7 defendants also requested bail. After the hearing, the court ordered two people to send eight more to jail.
On Tuesday night (September 22), five men and five women were arrested for antisocial activities and prostitution in a raid on floor No. 18 / A of Apartment No. 45, Level 22 / A, Navana Tower, Gulshan-1 .
Later, a case was brought against them under the Anti-Human Trafficking Act at the Gulshan Police Station.
