At least 21 soldiers were injured in a fierce battle between two groups of soldiers at an Israeli military training center. Troops from two different companies were stationed at a base in the occupied territories for training.

According to the Israeli army, while waiting in line at a dining room for lunch last Sunday, members of the 575th Bedouin Intelligence Unit clashed with members of the Looted Battalion Company and at one point a fight broke out between the two groups.

About 30 army personnel from both sides participated in the fighting and 21 of them were injured. The two fought for about 10 minutes; Later the training commander arrived and stopped their fight.

The fighting escalated to the point that some soldiers began firing at their rifles. The English daily Jerusalem Post reported citing an eyewitness.

Most of the injured received first aid at the scene, but eight wounded soldiers were admitted to hospital. A commander quickly stopped the fighting when the soldiers, who were being treated at a hospital on the military base, clashed again.

The Israeli army described the fighting as “very unusual and deadly”. They say that all members of the military involved in the incident will be punished.

The Israeli army says action will be taken against commanders who have failed to stop the fighting. Both companies have been suspended from military training.
