Ankara has set its sights on the Chinese market after Turkey’s relations with the United States deteriorated over the Russian S-400. A freight train with two cargo containers arrived in China on Saturday after a 12-day journey. Later, another train began its journey to China with 42 containers of exported goods.
According to the Turkish outlet Yeni াফ afak, the journey from northwestern Turkey to China is a great milestone. The 42-container export freight train left for Beijing on Sunday.
The train is scheduled to reach the Chinese city of Xian via Kazakhstan via Georgia, Azerbaijan and the Caspian Sea via the Ankara-Sivas-Kars route.
The train will cross five countries on two continents and two seas and arrive in China. The freight train will take 12 days to reach its destination. This train must cover a total distance of more than eight thousand five hundred kilometers.
Earlier on Saturday, a freight train from Turkey arrived in China. The train began its journey from Istanbul on December 4. It covers a distance of 6,893 kilometers and reaches Xian, Beijing.
The United States recently imposed sanctions on Turkey for its purchase of S-400 anti-aircraft missile defense systems from Russia. The ban was imposed on two others, including the head of Ankara’s defense industry. However, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has rejected the ban.
