Last week, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that tests of the S-400 missile defense system had been carried out.
Speaking about testing the S-400 missile system, Erdogan said that Ankara had tested the system last week.
He added that his country has all the rights to test missile defense systems purchased in other countries.
The US military has warned Turkey not to test a Russian-made S-400 missile defense system, saying Ankara could face “dire consequences.”
In a statement Friday, Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms.
“We oppose this defense test of Turkey and this measure will have a serious impact on our security cooperation with Turkey,” he said.
“We are very clear that Turkey’s test of the S-400 missile defense system is not in line with the promises made to the United States and the NATO alliance,” Hoffman said.
