President Donald Trump eventually agreed to hand over power to newly elected US President Joe Biden.
According to US media reports, a letter from the country’s General Services Administration (GSA) on Monday afternoon asked newly elected President Joe Biden to formally begin preparations for the transition process.
The decision came after Biden was officially certified as winner in the state of Michigan, said the GSA. GSA Director Emily Murphy said Biden was being recognized as the “apparent winner.”
Emily Murphy said a $ 6.3 million fund has been created for Biden’s team.
The GSA chief, who was appointed by President Donald Trump, said the White House did not push to delay his decision.
In a letter to Biden, he said: “To be clear, I have not received any instructions from him about my work.”
In the letter, Murphy also referred to “legal challenges and recent developments in the certification of election results.”
“I have received several threats online, by phone and by mail about the transition process,” he said. My family, my employees, and even my pets have been threatened to start this process quickly. However, in the face of thousands of threats, I have complied with the law.
Meanwhile, despite agreeing to hand over power, Trump has yet to admit defeat in the election.
In a tweet Monday, Trump said: “I want to thank Emily Murphy of the GSA for her great devotion and loyalty to our country. He has been harassed, threatened, tortured and I do not want this to happen to him, his family or anyone else. GSA employee. Our cases are progressing at a rapid pace. We will fight well. And I believe we will survive. “
Trump said he would continue to fight against electoral defeat, but the federal agency that oversees the transfer of power must “do whatever is necessary.”
Meanwhile, Biden’s team said in a statement: “Today’s decision is important in addressing the challenges facing our entire nation, including controlling the epidemic and restoring our economy. This final decision is a final administrative measure. to formally begin the transition process with federal agencies.
