Three friends were killed in a motorcycle accident while returning from a relative’s home in Gobindganj de Gaibandha in Shibganj upazila de Bogra. They were all in the ninth grade. All three are madrasa students. The accident took place at the Ekadala junction of the Rajabirat-Panitla highway in Gobindaganj upazila on Thursday (February 18) afternoon. The deceased were identified as Sumon Mia, 18, son of Mozaffar Hossain from Sobhanpur Porabari village under the union of Maidanhatta of Shibganj in Bogra, Abdullah, 18, son of Shahjahan Ali from Kupa village under the same union and Shakib Mia, 18, Shariful’s son. Islam of the same people. They used to study in the ninth class at the local Daridah Senior Fazil Madrasa.

SM Roopam, president of the Maidanhatta Union in Shibganj, Bogra, and the locals said that Sumon and Shakib were cousins. On Wednesday, Shakib took his older brother’s motorcycle with his cousin Sumon and his friend Abdullah to visit his aunt’s house in the village of Gobindganj in Baneshwar Nishkinchapar in Gaibandha adjacent to Shibganj upazila.

Milon Kumar Chatterjee said they would be returning home Thursday afternoon. Shakib lost control when he reached the Ekdala junction of the Rajabirat-Panitla highway in Gobindaganj upazila. At that moment, he hit a fruit on the side of the road and fell. Sumon died on the spot after sustaining injuries to different parts of his body, including his head. The late Abdullah died on the way to Gobindganj Hospital and Shakib on the way to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.

The president of the Maidanhatta union, SM Roopam, said the police turned over the bodies of the three murdered students from the madrasah to family members. After the janaza, the bodies were buried in the family cemeteries in their respective areas.

Citing eyewitnesses, Gobindganj Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Afzal Hossain said the three were riding the same motorcycle. The driver was driving a motorcycle with both hands when the road was empty. At that point, the motorcycle lost control and hit the road. Two died on the spot and one died after being transferred to the Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.
