Kishoreganj: A tourist named Mahmudul Hasan Chowdhury (32) was electrocuted while visiting Haor in Mithamin. Four more people were injured in the incident.
The incident took place in Haor’s Hasanpur Bridge area in Mithamin sub-district on Friday (August 28) around 7.30pm.
The deceased was identified as 32-year-old Mahmudul Hasan Chowdhury, son of Abdul Malek Chowdhury from Nainiapara village in the Palashbari sub-district of Gaibandha district. I was working as a programming assistant in the Phulpur Upazila office in Dinajpur.
The injured were identified as Shamsul Haque, 36, son of Aminul Haque from Motijheel area, Tanvir Khaner, 30, son of Nizamir, son of Nizamir from Housing Staff Quarters, Dhaka. They are Abul Kalam.
According to police and local sources, between 14 and 15 friends from Dhaka gathered to visit the Haor tourist area in Kishoreganj. They boarded a motor boat from Balikhola Ghat in the Karimganj sub-district to visit Itna, Mithamin and Ashtagram on the Alwaydar road.
On the way back from there, around 6:30 pm, the entire ship was electrocuted by contact with a rural power line hanging from the water near the Hasanpur Bridge in the Haor of Mithamin sub-district. Five people were injured. Four of the injured have been admitted to the 250-bed Kishoreganj General Hospital and the ferryman Abul Kalam has been admitted to the Karimganj Sub-District Health Complex. Mahmudul Hasan Chowdhury died in the hospital around 10 at night.
The Mithamin Police Officer in Charge (OC) said. Zakir Rabbani confirmed the matter to banglanews.
