Arbitration meetings have been held in the village more than once on the issue. But Shahnoor didn’t get his money back. At one point, Shah Jahan left the village and went elsewhere. Shahnur got mad at this. Last Sunday afternoon, he went to school and took Tofail out, tied him to a tree stump and beat him. That video was later spread on social media Facebook.
The 14-minute video shows Shahnur Mia hitting Tofail Ahmed with a tree branch. When one or two of them went to save Tofail, Shahnoor got angry with them too. Later, with the help of other villagers, Tofail was rescued and admitted to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital by members of his family.
Tofail Ahmed’s older brother, Saleh Ahmed, said that his brother had been tied to a tree and subjected to inhumane torture. The townspeople are afraid of Shahnur. Nobody speaks against him. He demanded justice for the incident.
Tajuddin, chairman of the Muktakhai Government Primary School Steering Committee and a former member of the Parishad Union, said the incident took place because of the collection of fees.
South Sunamganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Muktadir Hossain said Shahnur Mia fled after the incident. He was arrested today.
