A man was reportedly tied to a tree with a rope at the Patgram junction of Patgram upazila de Lalmonirhat and tortured. The victim was identified as Mostafa Ali, 38. He is the son of Abdul Gafur from the Sardarpara area in District 8 of the Upazila Union of Patgram. He is a painter by profession.
A case has been registered in this regard. Patgram police arrested four people in the case. Last Saturday (October 3) morning, the man was tied to a tree and tortured, and the defendant took his cash and mobile phone from him.
According to police sources, Mostafa Ali, son of Abdul Gafur from the Sardarpara Pranakrishna area of the Patgram union of the upazila, earns his living by working as a painter and raising cows at home.
Hamidul Islam, 45, and his wife Taslima Begum, 32, from the same area, arrived in the Dakuapara area of the Jagatber Union on Saturday (October 3) around 8:30 am. Hawa Khatun (15), Abdul Khaleq, Nurul Haque (60), Mostafa (42) and Fatema Begum (50) formed a group and blocked the Mostafa Ali pass and demanded 12 thousand rupees. When he refused to pay, they hit him randomly and stole 50,000 rupees and a mobile phone from him. He then tied Abdul Khaleq’s jackfruit tree with rope in a medieval style and beat it.
Many were tied to a tree in medieval style and recorded videos on their mobile phones during torture. Mostafa Ali’s wife, Mohsena Begum, filed a case at Patgram Police Station on the same day. Patgram police arrested the defendant Hamidul Islam, 45, and his wife Taslima Begum, 35, Abdul Khaleq and Fatema Begum on Saturday night.
Mostafa Ali, a torture victim, said: “When my son got sick about 6 months ago, I brought a Kabiraj from the neighboring Kaliganj police station to treat him. Hamidul and his wife Taslima Begum received treatment from the Kabiraj due to our domestic dispute. The treatment cost them 12,000 rupees. Since the treatment is not their job, they ask me to pay them back at different times. When I refused to pay, they tied me to a tree and tortured me.
In this regard, the Officer in Charge (CO) of the Patgram Police Station, Sumon Kumar Mahanta, said that the wife of the victim Mostafa Ali has filed a case at the police station. Police arrested four people in the incident. They were sent to jail through the Lalmonirhat court on Sunday.
