Span 41 of the Padma Dream Bridge was anchored near Pillars 12 and 13 at 5:45 pm on Wednesday (December 9) with the help of a floating crane. The last leg is scheduled to sit on the bridge on Thursday (December 10) if the weather is favorable.

Dewan Abdul Quader, executive engineer and project manager (main bridge) for Padma Bridge, confirmed the matter.

He said that due to thick fog, the 3,600 ton capacity ‘Tian-e’ floating crane left the Mawa Construction Yard in the afternoon with the last stretch. Then after 5:30 pm, the crane arrived at the specified location. The span is located on a crane floating through six cables (wires).

The Padma Bridge executive engineer said the span will be placed on the piers if the weather is favorable tomorrow (Thursday). The floating crane carrying the span will first place the spacing between piers 12 and 13. Then the span will be measured in inches up to the height of the pier. Later it will be placed on the support of two pillars. Once the span installation steps are successfully completed, 6.15 km of the Padma Bridge will be visible.

Engineer Dewan Abdul Quader further said: “All work has been completed today according to our specific schedule and will continue accordingly.” Tomorrow is that Mahendrakshan. The people of Bengal dream of waiting for him. Hopefully everything will be done correctly.

Note that construction of the bridge began in December 2014. On September 30, 2016, the first span was placed on piers 37 and 38. The interval from span one to span 39 was approximately three years.

The main shape of this multipurpose bridge, 6.15 km long, will be of two floors. The Padma Bridge structure is being built with concrete and steel. Vehicles will circulate on the top of the bridge and trains on the bottom.

China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), a Chinese contractor, is working on the construction of the main bridge and Sino Hydro Corporation, another Chinese company, is working on governance of the river.
