After a long month, 54 ministries and departments are opening on Sunday. Last Thursday, the Ministry of Public Administration issued an order directing 19 ministries and departments to remain open to a certain extent. Later, the order was canceled and a letter was sent to the secretaries to keep all ministries / departments and their subordinate offices open in case of emergency. The Secretary of Public Administration, Sheikh Yusuf Harun, informed us of this on Saturday.
In accordance with the public administration order, all the country’s departments, including Dhaka and the agencies and departments of 54 government ministries at the district and upazila levels, are opening today. However, the work will continue to some extent. The general holiday announced by the government to avoid Kovid-19 will continue until May 5.
However, the government decided to open limited offices in 19 major ministries. Later, the Ministry of Public Administration sent a letter to interested secretaries to keep other ministries and departments open in case of emergency.
In this regard, the Secretary of Public Administration, Sheikh Yusuf Harun, said at our time yesterday that we had previously ordered to keep 19 ministries and departments open. He withdrew the order. I have asked all secretaries to open offices under the ministry if necessary. They will be able to open as many offices as they need. Now, all government offices related to emergency services can be kept open as needed during government-declared general holidays. The field offices of these government offices can also be kept open to a certain extent.
Meanwhile, there are questions about whether officials and employees will be able to go to the office even if the ministry is opened. Because not all employees get car benefits from the ministry. In addition to this, concerned people are thinking about how to get officers and employees to the workplace safely by packing them in a car in the Corona situation. As a result, some people think that even if the ministry is open, employees may not be able to come properly.
In this context, said the secretary of public administration, the secretaries of the concerned ministries will think about how they will take their employees to the office. This is not what the public administration can say.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued an order last Thursday declaring a general holiday across the country from today until May 5. The government has extended the general holiday since March 25 for the fifth time to prevent infection with the coronavirus. Export-oriented industries can also conditionally remain open today by protecting workers’ health standards. The Ministry of Public Administration has given instructions in this regard in the license order.
However, due to the closure of public transport even after the factory opened, there is concern among workers about how to return from the village. Mizanur Rahman, a garment worker in Narayanganj, said at our time yesterday afternoon: “I came home at risk for vacation, now the office is open again.” But the bus service stops. How are we doing? If you don’t go to the office, there is a fear of contracting. We are in crisis
