Dabirul Islam Chowdhury, a centenarian Bengali from Great Britain. He has raised around four and a half million pounds for the Corona virus fund by fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. The queen has honored him for this.
Dabirul, a resident of the Bow area in East London, has been awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
He said: ‘I consider myself extremely lucky to have received this rare honor. I thank and appreciate everyone from the bottom of my heart. ‘
During the entire month of Ramadan, Dabirul Islam Chowdhury used to fast and walk 960 times in the 80-meter garden behind his house every day.
His goal was to raise money to help people affected by the corona virus in Bangladesh, Great Britain and some other countries.
Dabirul was encouraged by the way retired British Army Captain Tom Moore walked through the garden of his home and raised around £ 3.5 million for healthcare workers.
He said he was surprised to receive a letter from the Queen’s office a couple of weeks ago receiving the OBE medal.
The centennial said: “When we do a good deed, we do not think about achieving anything special.
“He is a source of inspiration for all of us,” said Sir Kier Sturmer, leader of the opposition Labor Party, praising his efforts.
Dabirul’s son, Atiq Chowdhury, said his father’s birthplace was in Dirai, Sylhet. She is associated with a charity called the Bangla Female Association.
