Tiger panic has broken out in the village of Paschim Rajapur, adjacent to the Sundarbans in Dhansagar Union, Sharankhola, Bagerhat. On Thursday, numerous tiger tracks were observed in an area of about one kilometer in the village. Seeing two types of footprints, Elabasi thinks that two tigers entered the town from the forest on Wednesday night. However, the forest department says one or two tigers entered the town that night and returned to the forest at dawn.
Villagers have been using microphones to be vigilant. Members of the Forest Department, the Village Tiger Response Team (VTRT) and the Community Patrol Group (CPG) have been asked to monitor the village to prevent the tigers from returning. Talukder Humayun Karim Sumon, a member of Local UP, said a farmer named Emadul Hawlader, 38, first saw a tiger enclosure in front of his house around 8 a.m. After searching the surrounding area, numerous tiger footprints were found. Shamshu Hawladar’s house, Alkaz Hawladar’s house, and Rear Hawladar’s house in Tograbari village are in the Bagh area. Apart from this, tigers have also been seen in the rice fields in the area.
The UP member said the tigers crossed the Wapdar road from the forest adjacent to the Kalamteji patrol post at the Dhansagar forest station in the Chandpai mountain range of the eastern Sundarbans under Sharankhola Upazila and entered the village of Bagh. These two tracks look like two tigers are coming. The tigers roam an area of about one kilometer in the village. Villagers have been asked to be vigilant and also to prevent children from going out. They couldn’t be sure that the tiger hadn’t returned to the forest and was hiding in the bushes of the village. There is panic among the people. However, no casualties were reported in the village.
East Sundarbans Chandpai Range ACF said. Enamul Haque said that samples of tiger footprints have been collected through rangers, VTRT members and CPG from the corresponding forestry office. Also, following the tiger’s wandering area, it is seen that the tiger has returned to the forest. Everyone has been warned by microphone. The rangers, the VTRT and CPG members, including the villagers, are on duty in the village.
Said the Sharankhola Police Officer in Charge (OC). Saidur Rahman said that many tiger tracks have been seen in different areas of the town. Elabasi has been advised to be careful not to panic.
Muhammad Belayet Hossain, Divisional Forestry Officer (DFO) of the Department of Eastern Forests, said there were plans to build an Indian-style plastic net fence along the side of the forest through the forest department to prevent tigers from entering the town.
