One day after the announcement of SM Jahangir as the BNP candidate in the upcoming by-elections in the Dhaka-17 constituency, supporters of the disadvantaged candidates threw eggs and bricks at the rented house of the party’s general secretary, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. . Hundreds of leaders and activists gathered outside Mirza Fakhrul’s home in Uttara on Saturday afternoon and threw eggs and bricks in protest.

At that time Mirza Fakhrul was staying at his home. The party’s standing committee issued a statement in the evening condemning and protesting the incident. A statement signed by BNP Deputy Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said: The issue was discussed at a meeting of the BNP National Standing Committee tonight. The meeting believes that there is government support behind this incident.

He said that “government agents have carried out this attack to divert the movement against the current epidemic of disappearances, murders, violence against women and children throughout the country.” The meeting expressed outrage, condemnation and protest against this unwanted terrorist incident.

According to party sources, the party’s Parliamentary Nominating Board conducted virtual interviews with candidates in the by-elections of the Dhaka-5, Naogaon-6 and Sirajganj-1 constituencies, including Dhaka-17, on September 12. A brawl broke out between supporters of SM Jahangir, Chairman of Mahanagar Uttar Juba Dal, and Kafil Uddin, Deputy Secretary of Uttar BNP, who were nominated for the Dhaka-17 constituency (announced on Friday). In that incident, other candidates waiting to be nominated opposed Jahangir and BNP leaders in the Uttara metropolitan area took a position in favor of Jahangir. In this situation, BNP Deputy Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon formed a committee of a member responsible for the investigation. The BNP announced Jahangir’s candidacy on Friday, the day after the committee presented its report to the secretary general. This generated anger among those who were deprived of the nomination.

According to reliable party sources, the attack took place at the BNP general secretary’s Uttara residence as an expression of anger. Witnesses said that a group of leaders and activists stopped in front of the house of the BNP secretary general and began chanting slogans against SM Jahangir. In the last stage of the protest, protesters were seen throwing hundreds of eggs at Mirza Fakhrul’s residence. In the Dhaka-16 constituency by-election, nine candidates wanted the BNP nomination. Among them, only activists and supporters of the seven private candidates were present. They also announced to join and resist SM Jahangir.

Kafil Uddin was denied the nomination in this regard. Daily our time “I don’t know who protested in front of the secretary general’s house, who threw eggs and stones,” he said. I went to the factory. Then the Secretary General called me. I said, I don’t know about this. Those who were beaten in Gulshan on September 12 have reacted without receiving justice.

Another nominee, Bahauddin Saadi, said he knew nothing about it. Such incidents are unexpected. If there was anger in someone, he could discuss it in the party forum. But such an incident at the home of the party’s general secretary is very sad.

When asked about throwing eggs at Mirza Fakhrul’s home, Shairul Kabir Khan, who is close to the general secretary, said: “The general secretary is very shocked by this incident. If the leaders and workers had anything to say, they could go to the party office and say so. He lives in a rented house. It is not desirable for such incidents to occur there.
