The target pistol was seized in the center of Kutubdiapara, west of the airport, on Monday night. The court ordered the three arrested in the case for two days on Tuesday.
These are Nur-e-Khoda Siddiqui, Deputy Inspector of the City Police Post under the model Cox Bazar Sadar Police Station, Officer Aminul and Mamun Mollah. They joined the Cox’s Bazar district police six months ago.
In August last year, 1,600 police officers, including then-Cox’s Bazar District Police Superintendent ABM Masud Hossain, were transferred simultaneously following the assassination of retired Army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed. Later, new members of the police arrived at Cox’s Bazar. These three were among them. They have been suspended.
Rozina Khatun, 35, grabbed a police officer while fleeing in a CNG autorickshaw with a bag of money. The Sadar Model Police awarded him five thousand rupees for his bravery.
Rozina told Kaler Kantha: “When I tried to enter my house and take the bag of money, they said, ‘I’m going to shoot. We are policemen.” I’m telling you, I’ll let you know but I’ll get you. Saying this, he grabbed the one behind him with both hands.
He said he desperately tried to escape without being caught. One of the other two hit him with the butt of a pistol. He also bit his hand. The people of the area gathered at Rozina’s cry. By then, the two policemen had fled. So Rozina called 999. The Cox Bazar Sadar Model Police Station went to the scene and arrested the arrested police officer and the other two police officers overnight.
Additional Police Superintendent. Rafiqul Islam said there was a corridor that included the CNG-powered rickshaw driver at the time of the incident. Attempts are being made to arrest them. All of them have been sued under the Speedy Trials Act.
He also said that the accused policemen were members of the Superior Judicial Magistrate. Delwar Hossain was in preventive detention for five days.
