On July 24, Payal’s uncle, Golam Suhrawardy Biplob, filed a murder case against the driver, assistant and supervisor.

Then on July 25, Supervisor Johnny and driver Jamal Hossain made a confessional statement under Section 164 in court.

According to their statements, the police said that Payal got off the bus to urinate when the car got stuck in a traffic jam in the Gazaria area. When the bus started to move, he ran and got up, knocked on the door and lost consciousness. Instead of taking him to the hospital after seeing blood coming out of his nose and mouth, the driver and supervisor took the bus to Dhaka from Bhat Char Bridge to avoid responsibility.

His family also complained to the court that the bus driver had smashed his face to hide his identity before throwing him into the canal from the bridge in an unconscious state.

The Gazaria police charged the three and filed a charge sheet against them on October 3 of that year. A total of 14 people have testified in this case at different times. In addition, four people have testified on behalf of the accused. Meanwhile, the trial of the case has begun in the Munshiganj Additional Sessions and District Judges Court. The case was pending in the Chittagong Divisional Speedy Trial Court. The trial of the case began on November 16, 2019 at the Dhaka Speedy Court of First Instance.

After the court’s observation, the judge said that it would not be wrong to say that traffic accidents are becoming more and more deadly. Accidents are increasing due to incompetent drivers, reckless driving, impassable roads, unsuitable vehicles, etc. The question has arisen in people’s minds as to whether the death of so many people on the road every day is just an accident or murder.

Pawel’s mother, Kahinur Begum, said: “We are satisfied with the verdict. Demand for a speedy execution of this verdict? Let this sentence be an example so that no family in the country has to lose their child.

The defendant’s lawyer, Hujjatul Islam, said: “The defendant has been deprived of justice in the verdict. We will appeal against this verdict in higher court.

His father Golam Mawla and his older brother Golam Mostafa are expatriates from Qatar. Payal went to Chittagong with the news of his older brother’s son. The incident took place on the way back to Dhaka from there.
