The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on Tuesday the names of Roger Penrose from the United Kingdom, Reinard Gansel from Germany and Andrea Gage from the United States for the award.
Penrose will receive half of the 10 million Swedish crowns for the Nobel Prize. And the other half will be divided by Gensel and Gage.
The award will be officially presented to them on December 10 in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
James Pebbles from the United States, Michelle Mayo from Switzerland, and Didier Kello from the United Kingdom received the Nobel Prize in Physics last year in recognition of the discovery of the first planets to orbit the Sun outside the solar system.
As always, this year’s Nobel season began on Monday with the announcement of the award from the medical department. In recognition of the discovery of the hepatitis C virus, Harvey J. Alter and Charles Rice from the United States and Michael Hutton from the United Kingdom received the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
The announcement of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry on Wednesday will be followed by the announcement of the Nobel Prize in Literature on Thursday. The winners of this year’s Nobel Prize for Peace and Economics will be announced on Friday, October 12.
