Mahbubul Alam Hanif, deputy general secretary of the Awami League, said that the Alem Ulama were respected, that they represented Islam. They are the bearers and carriers of Islam. There is no place for extremism in Islam. People do not support extremism. The sculpture of Bangabandhu will be established. No force has the power to stop it.
He said this while addressing a memorial meeting at the Awami League headquarters on Bangabandhu Avenue on the occasion of the anniversary of Mayor Hanif’s death. The meeting was organized by the Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League.
As the main guest of the meeting, Hanif said: “Some people are heating the field on behalf of Alem-Ulama Mashayekh, opposing the sculpture of Bangabandhu.” There is no place for extremism in Islam. Islam has nothing in common with its words. But those who speak of extremism in the name of scholars do not say Islam. Islam speaks of peace.
He said that those who again threatened Shapla Chattar should be ashamed. They rolled their tails and fled, no threat will work.
The president of the Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League, Abu Ahmed Monnafi, chaired the function and leaders and activists from the city’s Awami League, including Secretary General Humayun Kabir, were present.
