It has been reported that an old woman in her seventies was raped in Munshiganj. The event took place in the municipality last Wednesday night. The old woman filed a written complaint on Saturday on behalf of Quader Sheikh, the nephew of Saidur Bhuiyan, secretary general of the city’s Awami League.
According to the victim and police sources, the old woman left the house last Wednesday to perform the ablution of the Esha prayers. At that moment, the identified drug addict Kader Sheikh raped her by covering her face with a cloth. Later that night, the defendant Kader asked the old woman to cover the incident with 10 eggs and 100 rupees. Later, when the body fell ill, the old woman reported the matter to one of her close relatives who worked in Munshiganj municipality. Later, when the matter was reported to the municipal mayor, the mayor claimed to remain by his side and advised him to take legal action.
The victim filed a written complaint at the Munshiganj Sadar Police Station on Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, when the old woman left the house to complain and receive treatment at the police station, Quader Sheikh blocked her path and threatened her. Later the police went and took them to the police station. He was later admitted to the district hospital.
The Officer-in-Charge (CO) of Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, Anichur Rahman, said: ‘I have received a written complaint. An attempt is being made to arrest the accused.
