Some of the largest Bollywood production companies have filed lawsuits against “irrational reporting” from some Indian media.
The move comes after the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput last June.
The police believe he committed suicide. But the media has been covering several cases for months.
The companies of Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Salman Khan are also among the production companies that have been sued.
“The livelihoods of people associated with Bollywood are severely affected by the dirty propaganda directed by the accused,” the case reads.
In recent months, the news of the actor’s death has dominated the Indian media.
In total, 34 producers and four film companies have filed lawsuits against two Indian media channels and four presenters. However, they have yet to comment on the allegations.
The lawsuit alleges that the privacy of Bollywood members has been violated, all of Bollywood has been treated as a criminal and irreparable harm has been done to its members, Bollywood has been portrayed as a drug culture and Bollywood has been promoted as synonymous with criminal activity.
The body of Sushant, 34, was recovered from her apartment in Mumbai on June 14. At the time, the police said that he had committed suicide.
But later his family filed a complaint against his girlfriend Riya Chakraborty alleging her involvement in other crimes, including inciting suicide. However, Riya Chakraborty has denied these accusations.
Since then, several Bollywood actors and even Deepika Padukone have been questioned as part of the investigation into Sushant’s death. However, no charges have been brought against anyone.
Currently, three agencies are investigating the case.
Rumors and speculation abound about what happened to Sushant and who was responsible, based on little information from investigators. BBC
