According to the district election official’s office, 13 people collected nomination documents for the office of mayor in the second phase of the municipal elections on January 18, but the mayoral candidate nominated by the Awami League and the current municipal mayor and vice president of the district Awami League. Habibur Rahman Malek, BNP District Deputy Secretary Sheikh Shahidullah, independent BNP candidate, and BNP District Organizing Secretary SM Saidul Islam Kismat presented the nomination documents.
After the selection of the nomination papers on December 22, the returning official and district election officer Khan Abi Shahanur Khan canceled the nomination papers of the BNP candidate, Sheikh Shahidullah, and SM Saidul Islam Kismat, Independent.
The returning officer, Khan Abi Shahanur Khan, said that the nomination papers of Sheikh Shahidullah and independent candidate SM Saidul Islam Kismat had been canceled due to discrepancies in the affidavits.
As there was no appeal and there was no other candidate, on the last day of the nomination withdrawal Tuesday, the Awami League mayoral candidate, Awami League District Vice President Md. Habibur Rahman Malek has been elected mayor without contest.
In the second phase of the elections to be held on January 18 in the municipality of Pirojpur, 45,165 voters will cast their vote in the EVM system for the first time in 129 booths in 26 centers.
