He said this in a written statement entitled ‘My statement on the Dhaka-17 by-elections’ from his office in the elections building on Thursday afternoon.

Voting for the by-elections of Dhaka-17 and Sirajganj-1 took place on Thursday from 8 am to 4 pm Voting in these two elections has been carried out at EVM.

Candidates from the Awami League and BNP have repeatedly complained about the voting environment in Dhaka. However, the chief election commissioner, KM Nurul Huda, said that they found nothing of truth in the allegations of the BNP candidate.

The atmosphere for the by-elections was relatively calm, but there was a bomb explosion outside a polling station in Uttara. In addition, several buses were set on fire in different parts of the capital.

Mahbub Talukder, who has disagreed with various decisions of the commission at different times, has also expressed his displeasure at this by-election in Dhaka.

In a statement, he said: “Today from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm I visited 60 stations in Nikunj, Khilkhet and 14 centers in Uttara of the Dhaka-17 electoral district. Looking at the general situation of the election, I have the idea that this election has gone down even more than the last election of the Eleventh National Assembly. “

Commenting on the election, the commissioner said: “I did not see any opposition agents at any voting station. I only saw the presence of female voting agents in a booth at Kurmitola Model Government Primary School, Khilkhet.”

Mahbub Talukder said he had only seen “one party” posters, posters and billboards in the entire constituency, which should have been removed before the elections according to the code of conduct.

“Elections are not just about winning or losing a candidate or party. Elections are the only way to make the transition to democracy. If the elections are not free, fair, neutral, participatory and acceptable, the transfer of power it can’t be normal ”.

The electoral commissioner said that if the elections are not fair and acceptable, instability, social unrest and individual frustration will increase in the country. This increases the fear of creating anarchy.

“The tendency to anarchy is not at all desirable for a democratic country. I hope that the electoral process will be reformed, otherwise the country could move towards an uncertain destination ”.
