There’s a pinch of heat in the policy on burning buses

The two main political parties in the country have blamed each other for the sudden fire of several buses in Dhaka. Obaidul Quader, general secretary of the ruling Awami League, blamed the main opposition BNP for the arson at a press conference at the party’s office in Dhanmondi. On the other hand, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at an event in Dhaka that they believe some government agents may have been working to discredit the BNP.

Nine buses were set on fire in Dhaka from noon to late Thursday. Another bus was set on fire at night.

There is believed to be a hint of heat in politics again due to the arson incident on the bus.

Hundreds of people have been charged in the cases presented in these incidents and at least 20 people have been detained as of noon on Friday.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police spokesman Walid Hossain told a press conference that evidence of “political involvement” had been found in some of the detainees.

Before the controversial 2016 general election, there were several car fires and clashes in front of the BNP office in and around Naya Paltan. Since then, Bangladeshi politics have been virtually calm for the past two years.

BNP Responsable Doing Obaidul WHO?

Pointing to BNP, Obaidul Quader said: “Those old fires are a repeat of terrorism. Those who used to do it, have done it again.”

“Yesterday’s sabotage showed that the BNP could not avoid its traditional path of terrorism. According to his plan, the terrorists carried out a sabotage in the capital yesterday.

Obaidul Quader believes that the arson incident on a bus in the capital has something to do with the by-election of the Dhaka-17 constituency. He said: ‘They will make a lot of noise about the elections, they will also campaign in the elections, but they will not give any agent on election day. The agent has come out to give this slander.

Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described the bus fire in the capital as “sad and disgusting”.

He said such incidents occur when there is no democratic opportunity in the country. In such a situation, the perpetrators take advantage of it, he said.

Fakhrul said: ‘You see that some parts of this government, working in different ways, some of them do those things to sabotage. We have seen this in the past.

He claimed that “some government agents” could do such things to humiliate BNP. The BNP secretary general suspects that “any government agent” may be behind the fire. However, Fakhrul did not say anything about who this agent was.

“Something like this happens to sabotage a movement that is about to start, or that is moving towards something good. We strongly condemn this incident. Said the BNP general secretary.

Police What Saying?

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner and spokesman Walid Hossain told a press conference that each would have a separate case in the event of a bus fire. So far, cases have been registered in various police stations in Dhaka.

He said that some of the detainees had been identified as having “political affiliation”. He said that such incidents have taken place to create panic in people’s minds.

The police officer also said that they were trying to arrest the rest of the defendants by collecting CCTV footage. -BBC Bangla
