The Bangabandhu mural, which was erected at the Ranishankail Upazila Parishad facility in Thakurgaon, is being demolished and rebuilt due to the whims of the engineer. UNO itself has expressed its anger against the engineer in question.
In every Upazila Parishad in the country, the initiative was taken to make a mural of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the direction of the government. As part of this, the mural was completed by inviting bidders at the Ranishankail Upazila Parishad facility.
But as the work was not in accordance with the estimate and design, Upazila Nirbahi’s officer, Moushumi Afrida, refused to understand the work on Wednesday, September 18, ordering the engineer to rebuild the mural correctly.
The Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman mural is known to have called for bids on February 24 in notice No. 8-2019-20 LTM at a cost of Tk 7.5 lakh for Upazila Parishad. Gulnahar Enterprise Contractor was hired after selecting the schedule on March 10. But at the end of the construction of the work it encountered a massive failure. Speaking with the contractor in question, he said the work has been done on the advice of the engineer. Extreme anger has been seen in various political, social and cultural circles of the upazila.
On Monday, September 21, it was found that the mural had been demolished and the works had resumed. Many present expressed dissatisfaction with the demolition of the Bangabandhu mural due to the negligence of the engineer in question.
The vice president of Upazila, Sohail Rana, said that the issue of making the mural of the Father of the Nation in the Upazila Parishad was solely due to the irresponsibility of the engineer. I am very angry about this.
When contacted on his mobile phone, Upazila engineer Tareq bin Islam said: ‘I have solved the problem. Write what you have to write. ‘ He hung up the phone.
Upazila Nirbahi’s official, Mausumi Afrida, said they couldn’t do the job of making the Bangabandhu Nation Father mural as per the design. Then I will understand the work according to the design.
