Liberation War Affairs Minister AQM Mozammel Haque said people would respond in a timely manner if they did not apologize for the misinterpretation of the Bangabandhu sculpture. There are sculptures in every Muslim-majority country in the world. There are also many sculptures in Bangladesh. Nobody said anything about those sculptures. But the conspirators against independence are showing the audacity to oppose the sculpture of the Father of the Nation.

The minister spoke as the main guest at a mourning meeting organized by the Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance at the National Press Club on Wednesday in memory of the late playwright Ali Jaker and national footballer Badal Roy.

He said that the successors to the ’52 language movement, the ’54 and ’70 elections and the Bengali language, Bengali nationalism and the just rights of Bengalis during the great liberation war of 1971 were the ones who misinterpreted Bangabandhu’s sculpture. The opposition to the Bangabandhu sculpture is part of a series of anti-independence activist conspiracies.

The Minister said that Bangabandhu, the Constitution and the spirit of independence will not harm the heroic freedom fighters. After the country’s independence, the heroic freedom fighters handed over weapons at Bangabandhu’s call, but did not deliver training.

He said that during the great liberation war of the heroic freedom fighter Ali Jaker, he used to read news in English about Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. Badal Roy always spoke out against sports and also against independence. They are both legends in their own right. Their contribution in the field of sport and culture will be remembered.

Musician SD Rubel, Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance Secretary General Arun Sarkar Rana, Bangabandhu Research Council Chairman Lion Gani Mia Babul, among others, addressed the demonstration chaired by Lion Chittaranjan Das, Bangabandhu Cultural Alliance Advisor and Director of Dhaka South City Corporation.
