Planning Minister MA Mannan said plans were being made for all citizens of the country to receive a pension. Among them, people of different professions will also be covered by the pension, said the minister.

He said that the general management of pensions is not complicated. University pension plans are currently being implemented. What can be done for journalists will also be considered.

He spoke as keynote guest at a memorial seminar for the late members of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB), posthumous honors and scholarships for children on Wednesday.

The Planning Minister said that there is not only a risk in the work of journalists, but also a terrible risk. How to finance the risk for them will be considered. We will see how the social fund can be expanded. In this case, the budget should be increased.

Crab President Mizan Malik presided over the function that took place at the Reporters Unity-DRU auditorium in the capital. Special guests were Saiful Alam, editor of Jugantar and former president of the National Press Club, Panir Uddin Ahmed, deputy of Kurigram-2, and Mursalin Nomani, president of DRU.

The DRU Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Khan, former CRAB Presidents Abul Khair and Abul Hossain, Secretary General Azhar Mahmud, founding member Gaffar Mahmud, CRAB Secretary General Alauddin Arif and relatives of the deceased spoke.

Saiful Alam said, the child’s body weighs more on the parents’ shoulders than the mountain. An elderly mother, wife and children came here to commemorate the child. It is a matter of great difficulty. Among journalists who are Dikpal like Manik Mia, Zahur Hossain and many others, how many of them do we remember? Prime Minister Corona has created a Tk 3 crore welfare fund for journalists in the situation. But that is not enough. There are many journalists outside its scope. It remains to be seen whether pensions can be awarded to journalists. Those who get sick, die, if something can be done for their families. Reporters are the lifeblood of the newspaper. It remains to be seen whether a separate social assistance fund can be established just for journalists.

MP Panir Uddin Ahmed said journalists work at extreme risk. They have a role to play in keeping the country free from corruption. He ensured cooperation for the well-being of journalists.
