Dhaka: Corona has changed the public transport scene in the capital. There is no crowd inside the bus and there is a familiar scene of passengers with bats.
The struggle to get on the bus has also subsided.
During the Corona period, the public transport fare increased by 60 percent. It has been retired as of September 1. As a result, public transport is rented before the coronation period. There were no reports of overcharges.
On Wednesday, September 2, several important roads in the capital were visited and public transport was in operation to fill all seats. The scene of the additional standing passengers was not in sight. However, there is a shortage of hygiene. Some passengers and transport workers were not seen wearing masks.
The government stopped all public transportation on March 24 of this year due to the spread of the corona virus in the country. Two months later, on May 31, limited-scale public transportation was introduced in order to comply with sanitary regulations. At that time, the fare was increased by 60 percent as passengers were carried in seats at 50 percent. After carrying half a passenger for three months, the government withdrew the increased fare effective September 1 and allowed passengers to occupy all seats. However, conditions were given not to carry additional passengers and to follow hygiene rules.
It can be seen in the direction of transport, the bus is heading to the destination with as many passengers as seats. The bus does not pick up additional passengers at any stop. The above rates are charged to passengers. As a result, transportation workers have no problem with passengers.
The same image can be seen in Victor Classic, Anabil, Bihang, and Rajdhani Paribahan. There is no crowd inside the bus. The more seats, the more passengers.
Dilruba Sultana Neha, a Smart Winer Paribahan passenger, told banglanews that before Corona, Azimpur’s rate was Tk 40, but now the old rate is being taken. Transportation workers are following instructions to withdraw the increased fee.
Rayekuzzaman, a passenger from Rajdhani Paribahan, told banglanews that the bus environment in Corona has changed a lot. Before it was your responsibility to sit in the crowd of additional passengers, now at least that’s not the case. And the prescribed rent is also being charged.
Bihang Paribahan’s assistant, Ekhlas Mia, told banglanews: “We are following the instructions given to us by the homeowners association.” I charge the passenger’s previous rate.
Vipan’s transportation assistant, Ripon Mia, said: “I am fulfilling the obligation to wear a mask.” However, many passengers are reluctant to comply.
Khandaker Enayet Ullah, general secretary of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, told banglanews: “We have given strict instructions to workers not to charge additional fees anywhere.” They are all fulfilling it.
