A young man has been detained by the police while on the run after kidnapping the wife of another in Barhatta of Netrokona. He gave the name of the young man arrested. Sohag Mia. The bride was rescued from the Gopalpurbazar area and Sohag Mia was arrested while fleeing in an autorickshaw with the bride (18) from the village of Rouha in Barhatta upazila.
The bride’s uncle, Mahabub Alam, presented the case on Saturday afternoon, naming Sohag Mia, her father Gias Uddin and her mother Hajera Akter.
According to the lawsuit, the bride has no father. His home is in the Sunai village of Dharmapasha upazila in the Sunamganj district. Sohag, from the same village, used to harass him in various ways. About a month ago, the girl got married at a young age in the Rouha village of Barhatta upazila to save her from Sohag. On Friday night, Sohag and other people came to the village of Rouha and abducted her using her mobile phone. He later fled in an autorickshaw.
The officer in charge of the Barhatta Police Station, Mizanur Rahman, said that a young man named Sohag Mia was arrested on suspicion of rescuing and abducting the girl from the Gopalpur Bazar area while fleeing. A case has been filed in this regard under the Prevention of Abuse of Women and Children Act. An attempt is being made to arrest the other defendants. Legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
