Rajshahi: In Rajshahi, a young woman became the victim of harassment for smoking in public. Pedestrians rushed to see him smoke in public.
At that time, pedestrians quarreled with the young woman. At one point in the face of the cannon, the young woman was forced to put out the cigarette fire and leave the place.
A group of young people smoked in public in the same place in protest at the harassment of the young woman. On Friday afternoon (December 11), they smoked from a position at the C&B junction in the metropolis of Rajshahi.
10-11 young people including Ayesha Anu, Parijat, Maisha, Maryam, Sushmita Mira, Abdullah participated in this exceptional protest.
They say that smoking is harmful to health. But why would they harass a girl for smoking? If a young man can smoke, where is the fault if a girl smokes? We publicly protest against women for smoking, not for the purpose of encouraging anyone to smoke.
Sushmita Mira, who participated in the protest, said: “Some of us sing together.” Those of us who smoke have smoked there. Smoking is part of our protest. Previously, a woman was harassed for smoking in public. It is not okay to smoke. Men smoke in public, but women are avoided. We protest against this double standard.
However, when pedestrians protested against smoking in public, there was an argument. Some of the protesting youth told pedestrians that smoking is a crime under Bangladeshi law. The law is the same for all men and women. It is not okay to smoke in public. There cannot be a protest like this. You’re ruining the environment in the area.
Last Tuesday (December 6) afternoon, a young woman was publicly smoked in the C&B crossing area of the Rajshahi metropolis and was the victim of harassment. A video about this went viral on social media.
As seen in the video, a local man named Shahid Hossain Barek saw the girl smoking and asked her to drop her cigarette and leave. Later, the locals also started threatening them. This started an argument between them. When the girl protested, she was asked to lower her voice. You want to know your identity. Everyone present pressured the young woman to leave the place.
